How kicker picks become rookie picks

Some dynasty startup leagues draft a placeholder position — often kickers or an IDP spot — to claim future rookie draft capital. Instead of tracking that order in a spreadsheet, Pick Tracker keeps the live board and placeholder-pick order visible in one place.

Quick answer

In Pick Tracker, select the placeholder position your league uses (K, DL, LB, or DB) when you load the draft. As those positions get drafted, the board labels each one with the rookie pick it represents — the first kicker taken becomes 1.01, the second becomes 1.02, and so on.

Why leagues use this format

  • It lets startup drafts include future rookie draft capital without stopping to open a second tool.
  • It keeps the rookie-pick market active during the startup itself.
  • It gives managers a clean way to choose between current production and future draft capital.

How the mapping usually works

The exact rules are league-specific, so always check the league constitution. A common version works like this: in a 12-team league with one kicker slot, the first manager to draft a kicker earns pick 1.01 in the rookie draft, the second earns 1.02, and so on through 1.12. Some leagues only map one rookie round. Others map multiple rounds or use different placeholder positions for each round.

Why a live tracker helps

No side spreadsheet

You do not need to pause the draft to manually update rookie-pick order elsewhere.

Clearer trade context

Managers can see both the live board and the placeholder-pick order while negotiating trades. Traded picks update on the board automatically.

Shareable league view

Commissioners can send one board link instead of explaining the format in chat every few rounds.

What to tell your league before the draft starts

  • Which position counts as the placeholder for rookie-pick order.
  • Whether the mapping applies to one rookie round or multiple rounds.
  • How traded startup slots and traded rookie picks should be handled.
  • Whether the order is strictly based on placeholder selection order or another league-specific rule.

Track the format live

If your dynasty league uses this setup, Pick Tracker can show the live board and the placeholder-pick order at the same time.
